Get Your Geotechnical Data on Track with EQuIS Geotech

Recently a train derailed along the river just a few minutes from our home. While only minor injuries and minimal damage to the surrounding area occurred, it was costly, plus it will adversely impact railway logistics for some time to come. Additionally, one of the railcars dumped a few cases of beer into the river. So, there may be a few gleeful rafting parties along the Clark Fork this spring.

The cleanup of this unfortunate mess is underway, and a causal investigation has begun. It is likely that either a rockslide occurred, or the rails shifted amidst the freeze/thaw cycle. In any case, it appears that something happened to the tracks before the train arrived.

Where am I going with all of this? Well, if the train engineer had this data before the train arrived, they would have been able to use preventative procedures. Having quality data reduces risks, saves money, and informs better decisions.

The Geotechnical Industry is at a crossroads; the de facto geotechnical data management software is nearing the end of the line. This creates both a significant challenge and an opportunity.

The true value of geotechnical data management lies in the ability to collect, store, and analyze data effectively and efficiently. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, poor data quality, redundant data, and lost data can cost companies 15-25% of their operating budget.

Proper data management can lead to cost reduction and improved decision-making, as data can be easily accessed and analyzed in real time. Moreover, cloud-based management is becoming increasingly popular in the field since it allows for reliable and accessible data access from anywhere, streamlining workflows and ensuring business continuity. Furthermore, geotechnical data management systems can remove the need for complex spreadsheets and standalone databases, removing human error, improving safety awareness, and facilitating system growth.

EarthSoft has developed EQuIS Geotech with exactly these needs in mind. Working directly with one of the leading geotechnical engineering firms in the United States, EQuIS Geotech was built to align with the specific data needs and project workflows of the industry. While the system now provides hosting of both environmental and geotechnical data within a single data Schema using long established web-based and desktop tools, EQuIS Geotech also provides an impressively comprehensive set of tools and processes specific to geotechnical data management.

If you are interested in exploring this impressive new enterprise geotechnical data management system to amplify the value of your data before getting derailed, please reach out to us and request a demo of EQuIS Geotech.
